Janet joined First Congregational Church in October, 2000. She first found the church because of its Open and Affirming position to the LBGTQI community, when Rev. Jim White was the Lead Minister.
Janet shares that there were two distinct times in her life when worship at First Congregational Church became an anchor in an otherwise chaotic situation. Some years ago when Janet unexpectedly lost a job, she found herself under a great deal of stress. In the worship services, she found peace and contemplation in the Sanctuary's physical beauty, the spoken word from the pulpit, and the uplifting music from the musicians. Two weeks later, she had a new job!
Much later, Janet became the full-time caregiver for her mother who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. She gives much credit to the wonderful caregiving support network in Teller County for keeping her sane and healthy while she gave this incredible gift of loving care to her mother. After her mother passed, Janet again found that the worship services at First Congregational were a healing balm during her period of grief.
In gratitude, Janet has named the church as partial beneficiary of her retirement accounts and an annuity. She has directed that the church use her gift to care for the buildings, to sustain the Our Whole Lives programs, and to support the Interfaith Hospitality Network hosting ministry.
